Chapel Hill Holds First APTA Event - The Tar Heel Mixed

On Saturday, January 26, The Chapel Hill Tennis Club hosted the inaugural Tar Heel Mixed APTA Tournament. Tournament Director, Rich Green, did his usual bang-up job in organizing and promoting the event. What was supposed to be a simple, 8-team, 1-day event, turned into a 20-team, 2-day, A and B draw tournament. The courts at CHTC were hopping!

The caliber of play was high in both draws. Mark Fischl came down from Long Island to team up (and win the A draw) with old friend Edie Murphy of Winston-Salem. Jimbo Galloway and Lloyd Ford of Winston-Salem were finalists. My wife and I traveled down from Cville, and the Galves came all the way from Savannah.

B draw finalists are Ray McEntee/Katherine Shelburne vs Tom Hunter/Wendy Nelson.

It was a fine event!

UNC to Install 3 New Courts

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has announced that it will install 3 new platform tennis courts (of the concrete slab variety - perfect for the warm southern clime; and less expensive) in the spring of 2008 as part of an outdoor recreation complex on campus. Reilly Green Mountain was awarded the project.

Congratulations, Chapel Hill!
